About Tony Neto

A native of Brazil, Tony Neto has lived in New York City for 25 years. He started doing hair while still living in Brazil, and since then has worked in different salons and for numerous clients including Alexandre Herchovitch, Michael Musto, Veronica Webb, Eva Longoria, Bebel Gilberto, Queen Noor of Jordan, Ellen Burstyn, Rocco DiSpirito, and a variety of photo, TV, and film projects.

Tony is also an artist who specializes in sculpture and felt work. He is into yoga, healthy living, and creative cooking.

His work as a stylist has been featured in Town & Country, Brides magazine, and Modern Salon, and his felt creations have appeared in Chinese Bazaar.

Why Beauty Box?
Tony was searching for a name that captured his creative sensibilities while reflecting the many services he offers. He thought of Beauty Box, and was then inspired to keep the name when he came across “Nature’s Beauty Box” by Amy Conway and Laura Sanderford while perusing books at the New York Open Center. It is a collection of recipe cards for natural beauty remedies—from hair color to shampoo, skin care to fresh breath—all made from natural, easy-to-find household items.

The centerpiece of Tony's Beauty Box is the new mural by Brazilian artist Marcelo Solá. Based in Goiãna, Brasil, Marcelo's critically-acclaimed poetry-paintings blend imagery and text that reflect his unique take on the world around him. Marcelo spent the summer of 2007 in New York City and created this work at the end of his trip to as a gift to Tony. It reflects Tony, the space, his love of music, and the world beyond Beauty Box's windows.

Marcelo's works have been chosen for numerous solo and group shows around the world, including the Panorama of the Brazilian Art at the Museum of São Paulo and the Biennial Exhibition of Plastic Arts São Paulo. He is in the collections of the Centre d’Art Baie-Saint Paul (Québec, Canada), the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, the National Museum of Fine Arts (Rio de Janeiro), and the Museum of Art of Brasilia.
